| Description | UPSC 08/2026 Selection Process Selection is made by the Union Public Service Commission through Recruitment by Selection, which may involve a Recruitment Test (RT) or Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) followed by an interview, or interview only, depending on the post - the notification does not specify which mode applies to each individual post beyond noting that a Recruitment Test may form part of the selection process. Where a Recruitment Test forms part of selection, candidates must clear the minimum level of suitability at both the RT stage and the interview stage for their respective category. The minimum level of suitability in interview, irrespective of whether selection is by interview alone or RT plus interview, is: UR – 50 marks, OBC – 45 marks, SC/ST/PH – 40 marks, out of a total of 100 interview marks. Where the number of applications is large, UPSC may apply shortlisting criteria such as desirable qualifications, higher educational qualifications, higher relevant experience, or a Recruitment Test, to restrict the number of candidates called for interview. Recruitment Test / Combined Recruitment Test, where held, is ordinarily conducted at: Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Visakhapatnam. The list of centres is subject to change and will be notified on the Commission's website.
