| Description | Job Description Functional Safety (Autonomous Systems) Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety & Simulation Specialist to support safety concept development for fully autonomous vehicle systems (L4). The primary responsibility is to create robust simulation-based safety scenarios to support hazard identification, FTTI characterization, and vehicle-level safety parameter definition in compliance with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (SOTIF). Key Responsibilities Support Functional Safety Concept Phase activities (Item Definition, HARA, Safety Goals) for autonomous systems. Develop safety-critical and worst-case simulation scenarios for hazard identification and FTTI estimation. Define, analyze, and validate ODDs (Operational Design Domains) and their boundaries. Generate scenario catalogs supporting vehicle-level safety concepts and fail-operational strategies. Collaborate with system, software, and ADAS teams to align simulation outputs with safety requirements. Support functional and technical safety concept derivation using simulation evidence. Contribute to safety case arguments using simulation results. Simulation & Tools Experience Hands-on experience with AV simulation environments (e.g., IPG CarMaker, dSPACE ASM, CARLA, PreScan, SVL). Development of parameterized scenarios including ego vehicle faults, environmental degradation, sensor failures, and behavioral uncertainties. Experience with Monte Carlo, worst-case, and edge-case simulation techniques. Ability to extract timing budgets and reaction assumptions for FTTI calculations. Required Experience & Skills 7 - 10 years of experience in automotive functional safety for ADAS/AV systems. Strong understanding of ISO 26262 (Concept Phase focus) and ISO 21448 (SOTIF). Experience in hazard identification for autonomous or highly automated driving functions. Deep understanding of vehicle-level behaviors, fallback concepts, and minimal risk maneuvers. Exposure to AV stacks including perception, planning, control, and system-of-systems safety. Ability to work with safety artifacts: Item Definition, HARA, FSC, and safety cases. ODD & Scenario Expertise Proven experience defining and validating ODDs (road types, traffic, environmental conditions). Mapping hazards and safety goals to ODD constraints. Identifying ODD exceedance scenarios and deriving safe states/minimal risk conditions. Translating ODD assumptions into simulation parameters. Nice to Have Experience with fully driverless systems (no human fallback). Knowledge of ISO 23374 / ISO 34502 scenario-based safety approaches. Experience supporting safety assessments or audits. Familiarity with safety argumentation (GSN). Education Bachelor’s or master’s degree in automotive, Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering. Other Requirements Able to independently lead the work and work in cross culture teams |
